RationaleforRecommendation
Rationale for Recommendation: The primary purpose of the grant is to “reduce the number of persons killed and injured in crashes involving alcohol and other primary collision factors” by implementing “best practice strategies” including, but not limited to, enforcement and education efforts about general traffic safety, DUI, distracted driving, sideshow/street racing, and motorcyclist, pedestrian, and bicyclist safety issues.
The most recent California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Crash Rankings reveal that between 2022 and 2023, Sacramento’s overall ranking slightly reduced (from 13 to 12) when compared to the 14 other California cities with populations of 250,000 or more, with the lowest numbers ranking “highest” or “worst.” The below tables demonstrate the year-to-year change in the number of victims killed or injured in traffic crashes and the number of crashes, as reported by OTS.
