Description/Analysis
IssueDetail
Issue Detail: The City of Sacramento is committed to fostering a safe and thriving community for all its residents and recognizes the importance of a multi-faceted approach to violence reduction.
The Office of Violence Prevention is integral to these efforts, and they work with community-based organizations to reduce community violence. Focused on community partnerships, this office administers gang prevention and intervention programs and strategies, such as the Gang Prevention & Intervention Task Force (GPIT) and the Evidence-Based Community Violence Interruption, Disruption, and Suppression (EBCVIDS) multi-year operating projects.
In addition, Youth Development Administration (YDA), formerly the Office of Youth Development, within the Department of Youth Parks and Community Enrichment provides funding to Community-Based Organizations to support a network of children- and youth-serving programs that align with the Youth Plan.
YDA's grantmaking initiatives include Measure L's Sacramento Children's Fund and #SacTownYouthNights which both provide violence prevention funding for local Community Based Organizations. #SacTownYouthNights funds CBO-run youth drop-in events on Friday and Saturday nights in priority neighborhoods through February 2027.
The Sacramento Children's Fund is a dedicated, sustained stream of funding supporting a range of positive youth development priorities for Sacramento children and youth under age 25, spanning mental health, youth homelessness, substance use, early childhood development, and violence prevention.
