Description/Analysis

IssueDetail

Issue Detail: On August 25, 2026, the City Council performed a performance evaluation of the City Auditor, Farishta Ahrary.  On that same date, also in closed session, the City Council agreed to have the Mayor enter negotiations on a salary increase for the City Auditor. The Mayor and Ms. Ahrary were able to agree on a new salary. As a result of those negotiations, the Mayor and staff are recommending a salary increase of six percent (6%) for Ms. Ahrary, resulting in a new salary of $238,500.00 per year.

Government Code § 54953

Government Code section 54953 requires that prior to taking final action, the legislative body must orally report a summary of the recommendation for final action on salaries, salary schedules, or compensation paid in the form of fringe benefits of a local agency executive during the open meeting in which the final action is to be taken. Local agency executives are defined in Government Code section 3511.1 (d), and the City Auditor meets the local agency executive definition.
