Recommendation

Recommendation: Pass a Motion approving the proposed revisions to the Fire Battalion Chief, Fire Captain, Fire Engineer, Firefighter, Sacramento Fire Emergency Medical Technician, and Sacramento Fire Paramedic classification specifications to remove the Residency Requirement, consistent with the recently executed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which waives this requirement for Local 522 represented classifications.

Issue Detail: The Fire Battalion Chief, Fire Captain, Fire Engineer, Firefighter, Sacramento Fire Emergency Medical Technician, and Sacramento Fire Paramedic classification specifications are being revised to remove Residency Requirement language. The revisions align the classification specifications with the recently executed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which waives the Residency Requirement for Local 522 represented classifications.

Rationale for Recommendation: The recently executed Memorandum of Understanding (2025-2028) between the City of Sacramento and Sacramento Area Firefighters, Local 522 waives the Residency Requirement for Local 522 represented classifications (Article 27.10). Revising the classification specifications ensures the classification specifications are consistent with the terms of the MOU.
