Description/Analysis
IssueDetail
Issue Detail: The State of California has awarded $500,000 to the City of Sacramento as part of the Budget Act of 2023 (Chapters 12, 38, and 189, Statutes of 2023). The State is providing the City of Sacramento with funding for a Meadowview Community Famers Market. This bill went into effect on September 13, 2023, after it was signed by Governor Newsom. The California Department of Food and Agriculture has directed the City of Sacramento to receive the $500,000 for a Meadowview Community Farmers Market.
These funds will be used to increase access to fresh, healthy food in low-income communities in South Sacramento. In partnership with community organizations, the funding will support a new Farmers Market in Meadowview that would provide an affordable, culturally-relevant, and convenient source of local fresh produce to improve the health and well-being of South Sacramento residents.
Staff will return to Council at a later date to seek approval of contracts associated with this funding.
