Description/Analysis
IssueDetail
Issue Detail: The Sacramento Community Police Review Commission has prepared a draft letter, Attachment 2, to the Mayor and City Council regarding a proposal to reduce the number of Commission meetings by half.
The proposed letter acknowledges the City’s interest in improving efficiency and reducing administrative burdens while expressing concern that a significant reduction in meetings may limit opportunities for public engagement, transparency, and timely review of matters related to public safety and community trust.
The draft correspondence also proposes alternative approaches intended to support operational efficiency while preserving the Commission’s accessibility and effectiveness. These include:
• Continued efforts by the Commission to manage and streamline regular meeting agendas and meeting duration; and
• Consideration of allowing the Commission flexibility to conduct additional community-focused meetings, when necessary and with quorum, within Council Districts for the purpose of discussing Commission reports, community concerns, and public engagement opportunities.
The Commission may provide edits, direction, or authorization for transmittal of the letter following discussion.
