Description/Analysis

IssueDetail

Issue Detail: The California Coastal Commission, a state regulatory and planning agency, administers the Whale Tail Grant, which funds projects that connect people to the California Coasts and its watersheds through education, stewardship, and outdoor experiences. The grant focuses on reaching communities all over California that face barriers accessing marine education and stewardship opportunities.

The Department of Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment (YPCE) is seeking funding from the Whale Tail Grant to provide accessible field trips for disadvantaged teenagers, transitional youth, and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to learn about local waterways, wildlife, and water-based recreation. Participants gain an understanding of watershed systems that flow to the coast and the Pacific Ocean, while building awareness of conservation, environmental impacts, and responsible stewardship.
