Issue Detail: The purpose of this item is to receive background information from Douglas Carter, Commissioner representing District 5, serving on the Sacramento Arts, Culture, and Creative Commission (ACCEC), regarding the D5 Art Summit held April 10, 2026, which was designed as an opportunity for artists and creative entrepreneurs to network, learn about professional development pathways, and opportunities for artists to grow their work in the City of Sacramento.

Commissioner Carter will share insights into the planning and development process, his partnership with Sacramento City Council District 5 Councilmember Caity Maple and will invite a discussion around ways that additional Commissioner-driven community engagement activities may be developed in the future, in alignment with continued implementation of the Creative Edge Plan and the 2026 ACCEC Workplan.

Discussions around activities that provide local artists and creatives with opportunities to connect, learn, and provide creative leadership are in alignment with Creative Edge: Sacramento's Arts, Culture and Creative Economy Plan (Creative Edge), which was adopted by Sacramento City Council on July 3, 2018, and which serves as the guiding policy framework for the Office of Arts and Culture.
