Issue Detail: This report is an update on the status of youth serving on City of Sacramento boards and commissions.
The City Council has decided that although the City of Sacramento has a Youth Commission, policy proposals and decisions that impact youth are not always brought forward for the Youth Commission's consideration. Moreover, it would be challenging for the Youth Commission to hear every policy proposal that impacts young people and provide input on decision-making. Therefore, the city council recommended that, as appropriate, city commissions should designate at least one seat for a youth (aged 16-22 at the time of appointment).
In 2021 the City Council added youth seats to the following commissions:
* Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy Commission
* Parks and Community Enrichment Commission
* Community Police Review Commission
In 2024 the City Council added youth seats to the following commissions:
* Active Transportation Commission
* Animal Wellbeing Commission
* Disabilities Advisory Commission
In 2018 when the commission was initially formed, the Measure U Community Advisory Commission included a youth seat.
In 2024 the Office of the City Clerk reviewed the enacting ordinance for every city commission. Each municipal code section was updated for consistency. As appropriate, youth seats were recommended with the exception of the fol...
