Recommendation

Issue Detail: Commissioned by the City of Sacramento originally in 1977, the same year of the creation of the APP program, De Colores Southside Park, is an historic and cultural icon painted by Chicano artist collective the RCAF. But, the mural was not done through the APP program and has not been part of the APP collection. With the recognition of the RCAF's profound impact on the Sacramento region and the Chicano art movement, the City of Sacramento wishes to formally accession this artwork into its APP collection as a sign of recognition to the artists and communities they uplift through their art. Already a city owned asset purchased with city funds in 1977, the mural's formal accession into the APP collection allows the program to properly care for the mural, including long necessary repairs and restoration that will include both community teaching opportunities and a re-dedication event on site at the mural.
