Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: Amber Fawn Wooton-Clark was a High School English teacher and later became a Librarian at the Sacramento Public Library. She was a passionate advocate for people with disabilities and made an immediate impact on the Library system by developing innovative programs and taking a leadership role in redefining how the Library served families with disabilities. An extraordinarily talented librarian, Amber was promoted twice within her first two years at the Library and transferred to the North Natomas Library in March 2018. Unfortunately, Amber’s life was tragically cut short in December 2018.

Policy Considerations: The proposed naming is consistent with the City’s Facility Naming Policy adopted by City Council on February 26, 2008, (Resolution No. 2008-0112). Under the policy, facilities may be named for an individual who has significantly contributed to the community.

Rationale for Recommendation: The naming of the teen space at Sacramento Public Library’s North Natomas Library is consistent with the City’s Facility Naming Policy. Amber Fawn Wooton-Clark’s passion for developing innovative programs and her leadership role in redefining how the Library serves families with disabilities, coupled with her desire to make our community better, make her an excellent choice for renaming the Teen Space.
