Description/Analysis
IssueDetail
Issue Detail: As specified in California Penal Code sections 13821 and 13826-13826.7, the Sacramento Police Department (SPD) receives annual allocations to manage a Gang Violence Suppression (GVS) program. Traditionally, and as permitted by section 13826.4, SPD partners with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office and community-based organizations specializing in gang intervention and prevention. Due to operational demands and staffing constraints, beginning FY 2026/27 through FY 2029/30, SPD proposes prioritizing the full allocation toward sworn personnel and investigative costs to ensure sustained enforcement and timely suppression of gang-related activity. Concentrating funds within SPD will maximize accountability, streamline administration, and preserve critical public safety resources.
