Issue Detail: In May 2017, City Council asked the Police Department to report on Youth Programs. On December 19, 2017, the City Council passed Motion No. 2017-0386 approving the Citywide Youth Development Campaign Plan.
The oral presentation addresses Council's request by providing a more in-depth overview of the youth programs that are supported by the Department. Additionally, the overview will highlight the Department's efforts to support youth in the City of Sacramento in alignment with the Citywide Youth Development Campaign Plan. Specifically, the presentation will cover the following:
1. Educational Partnerships
2. Criminal Justice Magnet Academies
3. The Sacramento Police Activities League
4. Community Resources for Youth
5. Pipeline Employment Programs
Policy Considerations: The strategies presented are consistent with City Council's commitment to make youth a priority, expanding youth employment opportunities, and to protect, preserve, and enhance the quality of life for Sacramento youth. It is also consistent with City Council's goal of establishing and strengthening community partnerships and meeting the needs of youth through a strategic plan that aligns the City's programs under a unified mission, set of values, framework and goals.
