Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: On October 16, 2018, City Council passed Resolution No. 2018-0403 reducing the number of councilmembers on the Personnel and Public Employees Committee from four members to three members and one alternate member.

Tonight, City Council will confirm the 2019 Mayoral Appointments to Council Standing Committees including the Personnel and Public Employees Committee. The Mayor is proposing increasing the number of councilmembers on the Personnel and Public Employees Committee from three to four. As such, prior to confirming the 2019 Mayoral Appointments, Resolution No. 2018-0403 must be rescinded and a new resolution must be passed officially increasing the number of councilmembers on the Personnel and Public Employees Committee from three to four as suggested.

Policy Considerations: The Personnel and Public Employees Committee will conduct its business in the same manner as the other three Council standing committees and is subject to the Brown Act. The selection of the Personnel and Public Employees Committee is the same for the three existing standing committees -councilmembers appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council on an annual basis or as needed.
