Description/Analysis
Issue Detail: The US Department of Justice's (DOJ) JAG Program provides funding to state and local governments to support projects that improve or enhance: law enforcement programs; prosecution and court programs; prevention and education programs; planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and programs for victims of and witnesses to crimes. Permissible uses of award funds are personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems. Awards are determined by the DOJ using a formula based on the three-year violent crime average reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Federal FY 2017 allocation for the City of Sacramento is $248,327. The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) proposes to use this allocation to continue support for its helicopter operations program.
