Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: The City's Department of Utilities (DOU) was selected for grant funding from the Department of Water Resources (DWR) for the Flood Emergency Response -Statewide Grant Round 3 Program. The work plan approved in the City's application will contribute to the enhanced flood emergency response preparedness.

The objective of the Flood Emergency Response grants is to improve local flood emergency response in California and contribute to increased public safety. The City was awarded $70,000 for task 1.3 (ALERT2) to upgrade the remaining six visual staff and digital gages[FH2][MV3] to NAVD 88. By converting these gages to NAVD88, the gages will be consistent with DWR's gages that have already been converted on the Sacramento River within the City and make them consistent with Sacramento County Alert System and California DWR through the California Data Exchange Center.

Policy Considerations: Accepting external funding supports the City's Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) adopted by the City Council in May 2017.
