Adopt a Resolution: 1) approving the construction plans and specifications for the Department of Utilities' 35th Avenue Demonstration Garden Project; 2) authorizing the City Manager or the City Manager's designee to execute a construction contract with Sierra Valley Construction, Inc. for an amount not-to-exceed $638,713 for the Garden project; and 3) authorizing related budget transfers.

Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: In an effort to make the Department of Utilities (DOU) campus on 35th Ave more drought tolerant and river friendly, coupled with the damage sustained to the existing landscape during the recent extended drought, DOU is proposing to re-landscape portions of the campus. The new proposed landscape consists of river friendly native plants, bioswales, permeable pavement, rain water harvesting cisterns, public training and classroom space, various water efficient irrigation technologies and systems, interpretive educational signage, picnic areas, electric vehicle charging stations and additional parking spaces. The new landscape will be utilized as a demonstration and training space for public education to educate City residents and businesses about water efficient landscape practices, low impact development strategies, and use of rain barrels and cisterns.
