Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: Staff recommends Council approve a Cost Share Agreement (CSA) with the County of Sacramento (County), for street and trench restoration associated with two Accelerated Water Meter Program projects.

The City retails water to 1,132 customers in the Fruitridge area that is outside the City limits. As part of the Accelerated Water Meter Program, DOU will be replacing pipes and installing water meters within existing County roadways, under a County Encroachment Permit. Most roadways affected by this project are included as candidates for asphalt overlay in the near future. Most of the cost and effort associated with the City restoring the pavement, following the waterline installation, would be lost when Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) subsequently grinds and overlays the pavement. Consolidating the City's trench restoration with SacDOT's overlay project will minimize the inconvenience the public experiences and will reduce cost to both projects.
