Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: The proposed Wood Park is a 5.6-acre neighborhood park located at 6755 Bodine Circle in South Sacramento.

The proposed Wood Park Master Plan Amendment would add a community garden, dog park, fitness stations, mile markers along the existing walkways, group seating areas, ADA accessible group picnic area, new striping to the existing basketball court and water efficient demonstration garden to the original Wood Park Master Plan dated 1982. The dog park will include a large dog park (0.83 acres) and a small dog park (0.25 acres).

The remaining components of the Master Plan remain unchanged. They include a volleyball court, basketball court, playground, soccer field, walkways, group seating areas, and group picnic areas.

Policy Considerations: On May 9, 1974, the City Council adopted the "Leslie Wood Park" name, after former City of Sacramento mayor, Leslie Wood, who was mayor from 1952-1953.

Providing parks and recreation facilities is consistent with the City's strategic plan to achieve sustainability and livability and to expand economic development throughout the City. The adoption of a master plan is consistent with the park development process set forth in the 2005-2010 Park & Recreation Master Plan.
